Parlocal, a project for the development of direct democracy and participatory budgeting

The Parlocal project “Networks for communication and reinforcement of capacities within the framework of participatory budgeting and other instruments of public policies related to participation" has been officially launched. This project is headed by Malaga’s Provincial Council in collaboration with Latin American partners and financed by the European Union.

The training process starting in June includes in-class sessions, on-line lessons and exchanges between experts from different countries; 60 participants with the adequate experience for thinking and building alternatives, and 16 expert institutions from different countries. Besides, the project also includes a comparative research carried out in 36 municipalities with active processes from Spain, Dominican Republic and Uruguay staring in May. The specific outputs of this thinking process will consist on a Good Practice Manual, a Comparative Research and the texts used during the training or an informative video. These materials are considered interesting for the debate and will be useful in the development of the experiences of direct democracy and participatory budgeting as a real alternative to the traditional technocratic management.
