TOWARDS THE THEMATIC WORLD SOCIAL FORUM MEXICO 2010

TOWARDS THE THEMATIC WORLD SOCIAL FORUM MEXICO 2010

Next May 2nd, 3rd and 4th , 2010 the Mexico City Zócalo main square will be the venue for the Thematic World Social Forum: “Of the people and by the people: Other solutions to the global crisis are possible”, where extensive moments  of dialogs and proposal debates will take place among movements, organizations, networks, social representatives, national and international personalities and experts around the popular alternatives facing the neoliberal economic model and its impacts on all the dimensions of the human activity. Among them, we will rely on the presence of representatives of movements like: Indigenous people from Bolivia, Climatic Justice and South Jubilee; besides intellectuals like Helio Gallardo, Pablo González Casanova and François Houtart

After having emerged in the  space of World Social Forum, in an organized and massive way in 2008, on  the occasion of the “Global Action Day”, promotion and strengthening of social forum process has been ongoing  in many places of Mexico. To date there is participation in at least fifteen of the 32 states, showing an evident interest of the Mexican people in the articulation of their struggles beyond national boundaries.

There are many expectations in Mexico in  relation to the social forum, on one hand the links and connections of the national struggles with the regional and global ones; and on the other hand there is the interest of making visible for the world the experiences and proposals  evolved in Mexico, thus contributing inputs to the global struggle dynamics.

In the same way, in an attempt to incorporate the participation of collectives and social groups from different places of the world to the debates and activities held on the Mexico City Zócalo main square, “Mexico Expanded” invites to  interactive intercommunication using internet

The central emphasis of this Thematic Forum, accumulating momentum towards Dakar WSF 2011, is to debate and to put on the table the big diversity of concrete alternatives that our organized peoples have been developing  for years with very positive impacts, from resistance to  building of collective visions and social practices, struggling for decent life conditions for humanity, going beyond diagnoses, critiques, general considerations

The discussion and the debate on alternatives will be concentrating on the following themes:

TRANSVERSAL AXES:

  • Civilization and weather crisis, convergence of different crises.

  • Decolonization (economical, political, social, cultural and territorial).

  • Global Mutation, alternatives based on vital values.

  • Equality between genders, generations, races and cultures.

  • Unity in diversity.

  • Independences, resistances and social revolutions.

THEMATIC AXES:

  • Building an alternative economical model to the neoliberalism.

  • Let’s change the system, not the weather: saving the planet and building another life model for humanity.

  • Building a true participatory democracy respecting human rights.

  • Building an inclusive society based on social rights before rather than on profit-making.

  • Building a new social culture and plural-cultural societies.

Organizations, networks and social movements are organizing an program along round tables, forums, workshops, expositions and video display. To be noted the preparation of forums organized by the World March of Women, or the Popular Urban Movement, the forum of children called “other tales are possible” or the set up of the Village of Peace (a bio-house), and a solidarity economy fair.

The preparatory process of this event is now ongoing  with the permanent work of the commissions of methodology, expansion, communication and recourses; all of them articulated through a  Liaison  Group, besides the coordination of each thematic axis.

Mexico City is getting prepared to receiving with a lot of impetus and pleasure, in the beginning of May, the WSF and the International Council.
